It has become a tradition for us to choose a stately home nearby on weekends and visit it as a family. This time, our choice fell on Hughenden Manor - a charming estate nestled in the picturesque Chiltern valley, just an hour's drive from London.

From the moment we stepped out of the car, it was clear that the day would be special. The air was fresh and clear, like after a rain shower. All around were endless green hills, ancient trees, and neatly laid paths that beckoned us to wander endlessly. But this is more than just a pretty picture. It turns out that, during World War II, a secret operation codenamed Hillside was hidden in this quiet corner. I never would have imagined that strategic maps for nighttime bombing raids were once created within these peaceful walls!
