I've been living in England for over 2.5 years now, and I'm still amazed by how close you can get to wildlife here. When I lived in Novosibirsk, seeing a wild animal was only possible in the forest or at the zoo. But here, they come to us.
It started with a hedgehog. One evening, during the first month I was in the country, it simply crawled into our house, as if checking to see if we would offer it a cup of tea. We had to carefully carry the guest back outside.
And recently, a fox has moved into our garden. At first, we only caught glimpses of it, but now it feels quite comfortable here. Sometimes it just sits on the grass, watching us, as if we are the guests in its territory.
These encounters remind me of how different everyday experiences can be depending on where you live. As a child, I could only dream of seeing a fox or touching a hedgehog, but now they come to me.
Do you ever have unexpected encounters with nature?
